Flies for large predatory fish usually have to be large to catch the interest of the fish, but it also makes some demands on the tying itself due to the amount and size of the materials - the flies must also be light enough so that they can be cast and fished on the fly rod. The American saltwater guru of "size XXL" flies, Bob Popovics, developed a tying method called the ”Hollow Tie”, where it is about getting as much volume into the material so that it takes up as much space as possible without being massive. In this video, we have Swedish fly tyer Håkan Karsnäser behind the vise to demonstrate the tying of his favorite pattern for pike fly fishing according to the ”Hollow Tie” principle.
